Today, on average, we work about 40 years of our lives. Many countries have started to increase the retirement age. You and I are moving towards the point where we are likely to work until we are 70, and possibly more. All over the world, careers are lengthening.
Let's say you are 40 years old, of which you have worked for about 20 (-+) years. You have another 20-30 professional years ahead of you. 20-30 years to fulfill any of your dreams. In that time, you may change several professions and establish yourself in each of them.
Do you really want to spend another few decades in a job you don't like?
If you're in your 30s, 40s, or 50s and are questioning whether you should invest in your professional development, my opinion is that you should. You have a few decades to pay it off and enjoy the results.
And then, change at a mature age is given differently. Compare yourself when you first started your career path and yourself now? Obviously, you are much smarter and more experienced now than when you started out. You know a lot of things and know how to do a lot of things. Who do you think will do a better job? We think you will certainly do much better today. And we'll help you along the way - from finding yourself to implementing your career strategy

These are thoughts about a job you don't like and not understanding what actions you need to start with to get closer to a life of freedom of choice.
Here's an example and questions to ponder.

Many people think that when you change professional direction, you have to get off the ladder you've been climbing for years and start climbing all over again, starting from scratch. But, in the end, you can simply move from one ladder to another, taking with you all the baggage of experience and knowledge. That's how change happens faster and easier.
We are not advocates of the theory that a vocation can be found suddenly. I don't believe in vocation at all. Of course, there are people who know exactly (some since childhood) why they came into this world, they know that this is their mission. But such people are very few (maybe less than 1%, who knows. No one has done research on this topic). I have not met such people.
I have my own experience of change and the experience of dozens of clients. And that experience says that purpose is not suddenly found. And even if it can be, the calling is not in a form in which you can begin to realize it, that is, fully ready to be applied. To find it, you need to test the various vocational hypotheses you have. Do you enjoy photography and you think it could be your job? Great, try to make at least some money at it. Test this hypothesis and go the way of a professional photographer with the example of getting one order.
Think you'd like to be a product manager? Try talking to someone already in the profession to find out more. Try taking a small course or finding an internship in this profession.
More goals can be created. By studying yourself and the market, trying out and testing professional hypotheses.
And it's best to start your search close to your experience and current job. Without sudden fantasies of dropping everything and starting to grow organic tomatoes in the countryside. Tomatoes are great too, but try to take the most from your old experience into your new experience first. That way you can realize the vocational change faster and easier.
Another option - a vocation could be a business you enjoy or are interested in. After all, the more successful you are in your business, the more you like it.

Changing several professions, or changing your professional role a bit by changing your field, or adding/withdrawing from part of the functionality - this is the absolute norm of our time. By trapping yourself in this trap, you are blocking your present and future. There can only be one choice!? No! There can be more than one choice, and even the one you choose can be replaced by something else, and that's totally normal.

But no one, no one from the outside is able to realize the changes you want. And the sooner you realize this, the sooner you will realize your goals and come to the state you would like to live in.
No specialist (be it a language teacher, coach, consultant, mentor) will help you if you don't get involved and work on your professional changes and, most importantly, practically test your career hypotheses.
But it is important to understand what kind of specialist you need. And this depends on your task and the result you want to achieve.

But even if you don't engage in these behaviors, the risk of making the wrong choice certainly doesn't go anywhere.
So what to do?
Choose not from a state of "pick once and for all" or this must be my lifelong vocation, but from a state where you're not deciding on your dream, your vocation, your lifelong choice.
You are simply choosing a hypothesis or multiple hypotheses to test and see which one is yours.

Taking action is scary and uncomfortable, while learning is helpful and a kind of exercise in meeting your destiny. There's nothing to judge yourself for.
It's impossible to learn everything. Treat your career as a project. Start with mvp and keep building and improving your professional skills. When you embark on a professional change as an adult, your most valuable resource is time. Spend it to your advantage.
It is best to adhere to the following rule of thumb:

First of all, we need to work with the thoughts and attitudes that prevent us from being good speakers, expressing our ideas freely, building communication and other things that cause them.
We give a lot of practical materials, but they won't work unless you first change yourself for real, that is, from the inside out.
First of all - every person has talents. We know how to find them.
Secondly - 1% of talent is enough.
You only need 1% talent, but you also need 99% labor to achieve your goals! We quite often admire other people's talents, completely ignoring the fact that the main factor of success is not talent, but passion and hard work.
Talent is important, but it's not the main thing that leads to achieving goals.
Talent without effort is just unrealized potential.
Having talent does not mean that a person utilizes it.
The formula is as follows:
talent+effort=skill
skill+effort=achievement.
So skill and effort are much more important to a career than talent.
How quickly you develop skills depends on a combination of several factors:
1. your life experiences, how you were raised and what your parents taught you. This is where attitudes, beliefs, habits are formed. This needs and can be changed if you realize that the way of thinking and behavior prevents you from living the way you want to live.
2. your environment. the environment you live in, the culture of the company you work for. That is, the context in which you learn skills or competencies. This too can be 100% influenced by you.
3. to a lesser extent - your innate talents/genes/heredity and all those things that we don't choose and can't initially influence.

Secondly - 1% of talent is enough.
You only need 1% talent, but you also need 99% labor to achieve your goals! We quite often admire other people's talents, completely ignoring the fact that the main factor of success is not talent, but passion and hard work.
Talent is important, but it's not the main thing that leads to achieving goals.

- a great career - audit your career regularly, create a career strategy, learn, practice, test hypotheses, network with those who can help you;
- beautiful body - exercise systematically, stop eating “trash”;
- good relationship - talk to your partner, invest your time, emotions.
3. CAPACITY
How much and what you are able to accommodate.
This is especially important.
We all really want to be rich, beautiful, smart and popular right now. Lots of money and right now.
Now imagine you have wished for:
1. a cool management position - and you got it, and you got it right away.
What are you going to do with it? Are you ready for it? Are you capable of handling it?
2. or Henry Cavill (sorry, guys) - and you got him right away, with all his beauty, wealth, and popularity.
Are you ready to be with him? What are you going to do with him?
3. a million subscribers and there they are.
What will you talk to them about? What values will you broadcast? Where will you take them?
We can't jump levels.
Capacity is about accepting what we've been given and knowing how to manage it.
Capacity grows with us if we practice it. And being patient with it. And keep doing it.
But someone always needs a quick magic pill, and they keep looking for it.
Who are we to get in their way!
